I’m always intrigued by new technology that promises to get more from my garden. So, when GardenReviews asked me to test the Greenworks G40LM41K2X cordless lawnmower, I couldn’t wait to see whether it would give my dull green a glow-up.

This homegrown manufacturer promises all the power and performance of a petrol-driven mower without the mess. They also say it’s far less noisy than other models thanks to its innovative battery-powered system, so I was desperate to dig further into these claims.

The G40LM41K2X handles medium-sized lawns up to 500m², making it suitable for most homeowners. But does it live up to the hype? And is it worth the money? In this review, I’ll give you my honest opinion, discussing everything from performance to features and overall value.

Features overview

Let’s dive into the main features of the Greenworks G40LM41K2X Cordless Lawnmower.

First off, it comes equipped with 5 different cutting height settings, ranging from 20mm to 70mm. I found this super handy, as the grass at the back of my garden slopes up, and I’m forever chewing into the soil. Unlike other models that feature a visible lever, the G40LM41K2X has gone one better and changed this to a nifty push button (something you’ll find on products that are much more expensive). With a couple of taps, it’s easy to set the 41cm single metal rotary blade at different heights.

You might have also heard that the G40LM41K2X boasts 2-in-1 mulching and collection capabilities. The 50L grass catcher bag makes it easy to collect and dispose of clippings, while the mulching feature finely chops and distributes grass back into the lawn, so you won’t need to keep emptying of the grass catcher. This is a big plus for a mower in the midmarket, as competitor products from the likes of Worx don’t offer such functionality.

Its 40V lithium-ion battery can easily last for a full hour on a single charge. The battery is also interchangeable with other Greenworks tools—great if you’ve got other products from this manufacturer, such as the G40PSHK2 Cordless 2-in-1 Pole Hedge Trimmer. There’s even a 2-year battery warranty.

Regarding manoeuvring and storing the G40LM41K2X, I scored this mower 10/10. It’s lightweight and not cumbersome in the slightest, making it a great choice for those with limited strength or mobility. The clever folding handlebar saves even more space, so you’ll have no issues stowing this mower in your shed or garage.

Main features:

  • Covers areas up to 300m² in size per battery (600m² for 2 x 2.0Ah)
  • 2 x 40V, 2Ah Li-on battery
  • Blade length: Single metal rotary blade with 41cm cutting width
  • Number of cutting heights: 5 (25mm-80mm)
  • Grass box capacity: 50 litres
  • Charge time: 30 minutes per battery
  • Free run time: 30 minutes per 2Ah battery
  • 2-in-1 mulching and collection
  • Weight: 20.8 kg

Battery

The Greenworks G40LM41K2X is powered by two 40V, 2Ah Lithium-ion batteries, providing a combined power of 80V. One of the significant advantages of this system is that the batteries work in any Greenworks 40V tool, making it more cost-effective. It’s also handy if you need more run time.

When fully charged, the batteries last up to 30 minutes, which is enough to mow a medium-sized lawn up to 500m². However, this will vary depending on the length and thickness of the grass. Charging the batteries takes around 30 minutes each, which is relatively quick, allowing you to grab a quick coffee and continue. Swapping the batteries is also a breeze, and the level indicator is visible during mowing, letting you know when it’s time for a boost.

Unlike petrol mowers, which produce harmful emissions and are less environmentally friendly, this battery-powered mower has zero carbon emissions. Plus, there are no messy cables to deal with, making the mowing experience more comfortable and convenient.

It’s worth noting that there are three purchase options for the Greenworks 41cm Cordless Lawnmower:

Performance

I was really impressed by just how much power the Greenworks G40LM41K2X Cordless Lawnmower kicks out—especially when you compare it to petrol-powered mowers. The 40V, 2Ah Lithium-ion batteries clearly pack enough oomph to tackle most residential lawns and its 41 cm cutting width is wide enough to sweep through a lot of grass with every pass.

The mower’s 2-in-1 mulching and collection functions are really clever, and, if I’m honest, I didn’t realise how easy it would be to cut different types of grass. You can switch between the two modes swiftly, and the 50-litre grass collection bag is large enough to save you from having to empty it frequently.

The only downside I found was when cutting long, thick, and damp grass on the lowest setting. It causes a bit of a strain on the motor—it’s not too much of an issue, but it does reduce battery life. Therefore, I recommend starting with a higher height setting and gradually work your way down.

User experience

I hate the noise and mess of traditional petrol mowers, so the Greenworks G40LM41K2X Cordless Lawnmower is a dream. I was immediately impressed by how quiet the motor runs—especially as my neighbours often give me evils over the garden fence in the height of summer. The lack of fumes also helped.

The mower was extremely easy to assemble and set up—all I had to do was snap the handles into place and charge the batteries. It’s lightweight and easy to manoeuvre, making it a breeze to navigate around obstacles like flower beds and garden furniture. The height adjustment was simple to use, and I could easily switch between the 5 different cutting heights by tapping a single button.

The only challenge I encountered was that the batteries didn’t last as long as I had hoped. While I could finish mowing my lawn with a single charge, it did come close to running out of juice towards the end. But this is to be expected with any cordless mower, and the quick charging time is a big bonus.

Mower comparison

There are several other top cordless lawn mowers available in the same price range as the Greenworks G40LM41K2X, including the Flymo EasiStore 340R and Bosch AdvancedRotak 750.

Unlike the Greenworks G40LM41K2X, the Flymo EasiStore 340R only mows up to 150m² on a single charge, and the cutting width is much narrower at 34cm. Its grassbox is also smaller (35 litres). The only thing I do prefer about the Flymo is that it features a close edge cutting system with grass combs—these tidy up the edges of your lawn and flowerbeds, reducing the need for trimming afterwards.

The Bosch AdvancedRotak 750 is one of Greenwork’s biggest rivals. Not only is the mower 4kg lighter, it also features an extra 2 cutting heights between 25 and 80mm. Like the G40LM41K2X, you can interchange with a simple button. Bosch also says that their lawnmower reduces noise by up to 75 percent and balances acoustics with ProSilence technology. However, on balance, I don’t think it’s any quieter than Greenwork’s mower.

  • Cordless design makes it easy to use and manoeuvre
  • 2-in-1 mulching and collection capabilities
  • 40V, 2Ah Lithium-ion batteries and dual-port charger
  • Large 50-litre grass box
  • 3-year manufacturer’s guarantee and 2-year battery warranty
  • Battery is interchangeable with other Greenworks 40V tools
  • Several cutting heights
  • 30-minute charge time
  • Competitors have more cutting heights for different lawn types
  • The grass collector may need frequent emptying on large lawns
  • The mower may struggle with taller, denser grass types
  • No rear roller, so won’t have a striped lawn finish

The verdict

In summary, the Greenworks G40LM41K2X Cordless Lawnmower is a top-performing machine that provides a comfortable and easy mowing experience. Its innovative 2-in-1 mulching and collection capabilities, efficient battery system, and ease of make it stand out from the competition—even among bigger brand names.
