As we begin another growing season, it’s important to consider the challenges stopping us keeping our gardens healthy and thriving. One such challenge is the pesky slug, a slimy creature that can wreak havoc on our plants and leave us feeling defeated. But fear not, for there is a solution to help us keep our gardens slug-free and flourishing: a slug killer.
I had the opportunity to try out one particular slug killer that’s been gathering pace in the gardening community: Nemaslug Slug Killer. This little wonder uses nematodes to eliminate slugs from your garden. But will it keep your plants safe? Read on.

Natural organic pest control?
One of the drawbacks of using a slug killer is the potential harm it can cause to non-target species. Nemaslug promises to solve this by using an organic formula containing slug nematodes, which are microscopic, transparent worms, which feed and multiply inside the slug. Nematodes target slugs specifically, meaning other forms of wildlife in your garden (even snails!) will remain safe.
This formulation makes it the ideal slug control product for anyone with pets. As a pet owner myself, I would never use a gardening product that wasn’t safe for my furry friends. Nemaslug is formulated with this in mind, so I had no concerns about using it around my dogs.
Is it easy to use?
I was thoroughly impressed with how easy Nemaslug was to use. The product comes in a liquid form that’s a breeze to apply with a watering can or hose-end sprayer. The instructions were crystal clear, and I had no trouble getting started.
One thing to note though is that some friends have told me that they found Nemaslug to be quite finicky to apply. With that in mind, here are the steps I took to get started with Nemaslug:
- Start by dissolving the entire contents of the pack in a bucket containing roughly 4 litres of water
- Stir the bucket and immediately take 0.5 litre of your stock solution, and add to a 5-litre watering can and fill with water
- Apply the solution to an eighth of the soil area to be treated
- Repeat steps 2 and 3 another seven times until the whole area is treated
- Water the treated area after application
- Sit back and watch Nemaslug take care of the problem!
Was it effective?
Within just a few days of application, what I saw was a sight for sore eyes: a significant decrease in the number of slugs in my garden. I had been battling a serious slug infestation for some time, and Nemaslug was the first organic product that truly made a difference. Yes, there have been others that have got the job done, but none that I felt truly comfortable using around other forms of wildlife – not least of all my dogs!
Something else that makes Nemaslug stand out from other slug killers is its ability to provide long-term protection for your garden. The nematodes in the product continue to work for several weeks after application, so you don’t have to worry about reapplying the product as often as you would with other slug killers. This is a massive plus for me because it frees up more time for me to focus on what I enjoy: growing!
Any drawbacks?
Now, no product is perfect, and Nemaslug has a few potential drawbacks. For one, it can be a bit pricey, especially if you have a large garden or a serious slug problem. However, I found the results were worth the investment, and I was ultimately able to save money by not having to replace damaged plants or constantly reapply the product. And, as I’ve mentioned, some users find the application process to be somewhat tricky. But by following my application steps, I’m sure you’ll have no problems getting started with Nemaslug Slug Killer.

It’s a highly effective and easy-to-use product that provides long-term protection for your garden. The fact that it’s safe for pets and wildlife is an added bonus. Yes, it may come at a bit of a cost, but its benefits to your garden are undoubtedly worth it.
